My straightforward review of Donair Pizza

Wood-fired cheesy pizza topped with ham, cooking on a tray in front of an open flame

Since moving to Canada in 2015, I've been on a quest to unearth the various distinctive flavors here, and Dunkin Donair Pizza has rapidly turned into a family favorite. I had my first taste of it right here in Edmonton, and it immediately brings to mind that warm, spiced flavor with which I grew up in the Philippines but then with that decidedly Canadian twist. A drool-worthy flavor explosion of flavored donair meat, ooey-gooey cheese, and sweet garlic sauce to reminisce.

That Is Why This Recipe Is Like Home to Us

My whole family can't get enough of it! There is this familiar, savory flavor brought in that good donair meat while this sweet garlic sauce lights up the flavors with a perfect amount of zing. Each time I make it, it is pretty much like a mini party where two generations come together and enjoy a meal.

What Makes Us Acknowledge It

There is something about the amalgamation of the meat, cheese, and sauce that hollers to us for the seconds. With this one, I have the chewy crust to hold all of it together-in every bite there's an explosion of texture and flavor. This dish has a distinctly Canadian experience, yet to us, it lends itself beautifully to family favorites.

Our Go-To Ingredients

For the Crust: Just basics, but they make for a nice soft-chewy texture.

For the Toppings: Spiced donair meat, mozzarella, and that sweet and stellar garlic sauce.

How I Do It

To a pizza crust, I usually finish with sweet garlic drizzle: the one I grew up with. Although it may not become the standard pizza in your household, it's a family's comfort zone and excitement in every bite.

What's New and Exciting!

My preferred picnic location must be Bowness Park, located in Calgary, Alberta. It is indeed a tranquil environment, featuring ample green space, a serene river and numerous picnic tables where one can recline and savor the fresh air. It is excellent for families, couples, or even merely spending some quietude alone; however, the allure of the park extends beyond its peacefulness. I find joy in traversing the trails or observing individuals paddling upon the water. To arrive there, you only have to follow Memorial Drive NW, adhering to the signs—this renders the journey exceedingly straightforward to navigate! View on Google Maps
